Web Directory Blacklist
I'm thinking it might be handy to put together a web directory blacklist. Like, web directories that never approve submissions, or web directories that are too full of crap to be useful...
Thoughts?

Awesome idea JS - no one wants to waste time, effort, resources, etc. in such ventures and such a list would help mitigate that exact situation.
A key to building such a list might be the criterion for listings - much like what you've started:
1. Submission approval timeliness
2. Full of spam
3. No follow
4. .....

The one that really gets me is when they say "free submission" and then send you a bill.

Hey,
Its a very good idea you have As i run 2 directories so I would hope I don't get listed
But yes very good idea to have this list! It will save time but also will make the directories in question to maybe work on it and change the way they work or links
Maybe DMOZ will be listed in this blacklist

DMOZ has issues, but not enough to warrant blacklisting.

Hey
Thats good then. So your going to be very strict about what sites you add to the blacklist? What rules or guidelines are you going to follow

I think its a GREAT idea. There are sooo many directories which claim to be free (to get more traffic), but only adopt a paid directory model.

Strange, sometimes people think my directory is free and stick me on a list of free directories. I get more traffic but I hate that traffic as the crappy submissions just waste my time.
I would imagine that any paid directory promoting itself as a free one will be fairly short-lived but in the meantime why not blacklist them?

John:
Let you start a thread and we will put our suggestions to there.
I Know a few directories those are providing FREE Submission only for attrcting traffic towards thier directories and they have never approved my site. i think those should be in list.

Yup, that sucks. Business.com just went from green to red in two seconds flat.

so, putting the rel=nofollow makes the link useless, right? can you always see this in the source code?

It depends, if it is a one time fee and the directory sends traffic then no it's not useless, you just don't get PR and link popularity benefits.

This is a great idea, I am always looking for good directory lists which can be very time consuming when weeding out all the crap.
