Crazy idea for a directory

I had this crazy idea for a directory. Of course posting this would mean that someone could take my idea, but they could do that anyway. I was just thinking about slapping up a copy of Mediawiki and let the net community create their own directory. Sure it might get a lot of spam, but the wikipedia has dealt with spam, why can't I?

Any thoughts?

The idea is not unique. I've seen another directory (can't remember the URL) that lets its users manage the listings and approve or unapprove them. The key is managing spam and crap listings because then all you've become is a spamming ground and that is not useful for anyone. If Mediawiki comes with a moderator option you could have people help manage the incoming listings. With a good set of rules and TOS to help you and your moderators decide what's good and what's not you could probaly pull something pretty decent off.

No I don't, but I do know that it's hard to get enough traffic where spam is a problem.
