Accepted into Yahoo Directory for FREE !!!

My site http://www.paiddirectories.info, just a few days ago got accepted into yahoo directory for free. (see here)

Though my site is just less than a month old, i am not sure how i got into yahoo directory. and i dont recall submitting to yahoo myself either. It saves me $300/yr i believe. Is it true that Yahoo dir pass PR? Eversince i got included i get some nice hits from yahoo search.

In the UK you don't have to pay for the Yahoo Directory to get in - BUT it takes DMOZ years to get listed.

A previous owner of the domain may have paid for you. There is certainly no "new" tag by your listing.

It does not pass PR... though Google may factor ithe back link in the SERPS becuase I do see them show up occasionally in the back links.

That sounds about right. I doubt anyone would just add your site to yahoo directory for the heck of it. Anyway what’s important is that your in and getting some nice traffic.

When one antes up for a paid submission in Yahoo, they agree to an automatically self-renewing annual fee of $299. If a webmaster does nothing after being accepted, they will be charged the 3 C-notes every year. (Cancelling one's Y! directory submission is somewhat of a tedious process... more than just clicking on a "cancel subscription" button.)

My point is, the old webmaster may not even know they took care of the bill. I mean, if you look through the Yahoo directory, it doesn't take long to find dead commercial sites... make ya wonder if they're still paying...

Cheers

Just to clear up, there is no previous owner for my site as my site is brand new, just about a month+ old.

Anyway, i see some nice backlinks show up from different regional yahoo directories, which is direct link not redirect. I believe this would pass PR.

How did you determine that it does not pass PageRank? I believe it does pass PageRank.

what i found is main yahoo directory dir.yahoo.com uses redirect script and does not PR. On the contrary, the same directory listing updated/mirrored in country specific sites like uk.dir.yahoo.com, au.dir.yahoo.com does not use redirect script and believe these regional site constitute not only nice backlinks and truly pass PR.

UK directory uses redirected links also. The listings are ordered by popularity and Yahoo uses redirect links to determine popularity (CTR).

Just because you see redirected links doesn't mean Googlebot sees the same. Spoof your UA and visit the directory and tell me if you see redirected links.

Yahoo directory links pass PR.
