Turned Down by DMOZ
I submitted our site for inclusion and when I asked for a response they said:
Quote:
|
Your site is not eligible for inclusion in the ODP under our guidelines. Promoting another site's products is simply not something that we consider "content." It's "advertising". We don't categorize sites by what kind of banner ads they run; we don't care how the banner ads are paid for; we simply ignore the advertising content. But if a site has nothing left after the advertising content is ignored ...
|
I tried to tell the Meta's that we do not have the same content and was told by an EDITALL:
Quote:
Please note the sections in the Forum Guidelines saying
# If your site has been rejected, please keep in mind that arguing about the editorial decision will not be tolerated.
and
# This forum is not intended for site analysis or spam accusations. Please avoid discussing any aspect of the site except its submission status. "Rejected and not likely to be accepted anywhere" is a reasonable status.
Thsnk you.

Yea I know , i'm forging ahead without them. I'm in google, yahoo and some others is there other directories or engines that I could submit to that would give equal respect with google to compensate for DMOZ none inclusion?

Watch out for Skaffe, though - they're putting lots of time and effort into it. It's definitely worth submitting to now while it's "quick" to get into. They are working on improving the "crawlability" over there, so your links in that directory will start passing decent PR pretty darned soon (and a few of the higher level cats are passing PR already and showing in linkto's on Google already).
Definitely a good move to get listed in Skaffe. The benefits aren't huge now, but in the long term, I think they'll be a keeper.

Is there any other directory that is free for inclusion? Goguides, Skaffe, and JoeAnt are all paid inclusion sites.

The Skaffe free submission is open for 4 hours daily. It’s inconvenient but it allows us to get the submissions in within a reasonable period of time or you can apply to edit the category and submit your site for free as well.

I’m always around John. I go through all the major Webmaster related forums every morning to answer any questions related to Skaffe.

I’m not going to get into what is now old news and a publicity nightmare for both GoGuides and Skaffe. I will say that we have settled any differences and have a good working relationship. What you will find now is two strong directories with unique services and directions that will hopefully benefit all.

Im a Skaffe editor. Its a great system and is growing rapidly. I suggest all webmasters consider submitting their sites to it, as at this rate I believe it will become as large as Dmoz.

They advertise random 4 hour free submit every 24 hours. How do you tell if you happen to be within that 4 hour window?

Compar, the 4 hrs free submit is random each day, and at that time, you will find that if you hit submit, you are able to do it for free.

So you just have to take your chances. It is 1 chance in 6 that you will get in free.
