GoGuides on V7
GoGuides is slowly moving onto V7. I was just over browsing GoGuides and saw that there is a link on every category page to IMR forums. Pretty cool. (I didn't ask them to do that.)

Yeah. I sure wouldn't mind hosting DMOZ. I think they must be hosted on a TI-99 or something. Always slow.

So John, you may have a bias toward GoGuides, but how do think the the various directories like GoGuides, Gimpsy and some of the others compare for passing PR or relevance to Google?

That looks like a very astute move there, John.

Yes, we will be hosting GoGuides.
Compar, the advantage of GoGuides is, if the editors don't edit, you can pay to have your site included. I think it's a better way of getting things done.

John,
My question really was do you think any of these "second tier" or alternative directories have the same clout as DMOZ when to come to the SEs, particularly Google, ranking or evaluating your site?

I really can't say. The whole clout thing is not even proven. I have a lot of sites that rank awesomely in the SERPs without being listed in DMOZ or any other directory. Not saying the special relevancy boost isn't there - just saying it can't be proven. ..

To the best of my knowledge he's right about that.
But being listed in these other directories definitely does help search engines find your site.
For example GoGuides has been crawled by Slurp/cat inktomi.com 133440 times just this month.
So having a listing in GoGuides does help the search engines find your web site, that much can be proven.
BTW -- Hi everyone this is zag with GoGuides.

Look at it this way. If goguides builds a quality product the clout if there is any will follow them if the bulk of the internet community sees the kind of crap that DMOZ is doing. I mean some of their policies are full of S@*$.
Look at it this way. Before there was GOOGLE there was YAHOO. Now Yahoo is second to GOOGLE.

And if it is there it would be hard to know the effect that a single directory may have - but, either way, it would be interesting to see if there are any significant SERP improvements for IMR for this. This community certainly goes from strength to strength. Good advert for GoGuides as well.
And hi zag - welcome to the IMR webmaster forums.
