after you find those directory list be sure to check wheter those directories are in good standing, i mean if they are having good rankins and not being reported as spam. google shared a few things about directory submissions and the way people are doing this submission. automatically submission are not recommended, but this is my oppinion and i'm not doing it automatically whatsoever.

i don't recommend either to pay for any automatically submission...you will be disappointed in the end.

And DMOZ www.dmoz.org was and always will be free, but it is a massive directory and can be quite a while before a site gets reviewed. You can change that by offering to be an editor!

Dmoz is free but there is no guarantee your website will get approved not unless you can pass all there quality guidelines they have.

Similar sites is not a real web directory that the thread creator was asking about.

Try these few free directories:

dmoz.org
usalistingdirectory.com
highrankdirectory.com
submissionwebdirectory.com
freefind.com
ezistreet.com
ontoplist.com

I hope it's okay to share these links, otherwise, please tell me if it's not and I'll remove it...

P.S.
I'm not affiliated or anything with those websites. I just wanted to share. Thank you...

I wouldn't focus too much on directories these days but having a few top ones for a particular niche would be a good idea. The best free one is of course DMOZ.org. However its very difficult to get a link on here. The only way is to become an editor for the particular category you want to add your link to. This in itself is not a easy process either but it can be done.

Good luck!

I never was accepted with any link to dmoz. Almost sounds like impossible, but it isn't. However, there is a list of top directories that we shouldn't miss.

You can get thousands of directories from searching Google but that doesn't mean 95% of them are good enough to list your website on.

To many people lack the experience in the directory industry to know what to look for in a web directory before they go submitting there website to hundreds of them thinking it'll give them solid backlinks.

I've mentioned ton's of tips in this directory section on what to look for in a quality directory. For starters the paid review ones are the ones to submit to because when you do a whole review of head to toe on there directory, you'll find out it's a quality resource site.

1. Look at latest links - if any latest listings have keyword stuffed titles/descriptions or poorly written titles and descriptions, leave the directory at once.

2. If using a pre-made theme, chances are it's a low quality directory because the owner is not willing to invest a few dollars to be a decent theme.

3. If they auto approve listings,,,,,, leave the directory as the owner knows nothing how to run a quality directory in which you review each listing and edit the titles and descriptions for SEO purpose but make sure the titles reflect the websites official title..etc

4. If you see adsense ads or other ads all over the place, leave directory as that web directory owner is only out to make a buck.

5. if the directory owner says there website has PR. Leave the directory. A good directory owner will not brag about PR nor traffic stats, they provide a resourceful directory of niche websites.

I could go on and on because I rather submit my blogs to 5 high quality directories then 100 directories that are just link farms.

I would rather suggest to going with 2-3 paid ones than freebies. It's nothing but wasting time and efforts, most of the free directories out there are on auto-approval mode or they received thousands of submissions everyday.

Mods barely look onto those free submissions, so it's not a very good idea!
