Directory start up guidance

Since it's hip right now, I'm starting a directory. Finally I'll buy into something before Wal-Mart!

Has anyone started a directory using Yahoo has a host? Anything I should know ahead of time?

My main/corporate/income site is a... 'widget' site. So I was thinking I'd make the directory 'widget-only.' with a nice widget designed template. I was thinking for required reciprocal links, have people link back to my main widget site instead of the directory. thoughts?

What's it usually cost to have a decent template built? Which directory script do you suggest for such an endeavor?
