Is it important how your directory looks like?

Hi guys,

I'm just wondering, if it is important how your directory looks like?

For example my new web directory http://www.webzdirectory.com/ - Very simple

Some SEO specialists think that the simpler the better...

Well the look really doesn't matter but make sure that it doesn't look terrible, the main thing that matters is how much do you promote it.

Its one thing to have a plain looking site, but i tride to dig up site content , and didn't find much, i really dig the categories, and colors, but the key to submitting a web directory is not only to get a link to your site. content must rip with your script and keywords to have a good directory.

When the search engines spider your site its all about site content that pushes you too the top of the board.Back in the old days web sites used 150 key words, and now times have changed, and sites are using 8 to 10 key words.

changing your site that has been spidered for yrs. with 150 keyword and now 8 your swimming backwards.

Thats why your seeing alot of the youger sites getting high serps quick..... What im trying to say is do it rt. the first time so you dont have to keep changing your site.

yah it does matter, we do consider design of directory when submitting, even if we don't realize it

The only site that i care about concidering picking up my wed directory..GOOGLE..YAHOO..ALTA VIESTA..HOT BOT.. MSN.. some sites very few will turn me dn., but the key is getting power by the search engines through my site content.

There is not 1 site on the board that regected my site that i would feel bad about it. Ill get links as long as i build a strong directory regardless on what my page looks like.

Yes you are right a directory isn't considered strong from its design and directories cant have quality content as they are directories which lists sites so their strongess is shown from their marketing power and the quality of sites they list in their directoy.

Of course it is important what it looks like. Maybe not for the search engines and robots that don't see things like design...but it has an affect on your users and potential customers (if u sell links). Appearance matters whether you think so or not.

I think your site looks fine, but I know I have clicked away from other directories because they looked shoddy. To me, a low-quality directory site looks unprofessional and makes me wonder if it will continue to be maintained and promoted.

The look of a directory is also somewhat of a proxy for how much effort the directory owner is putting into the directory. If they can't be bothered to get a customized look, it makes you wonder how much effort is behind the directory.

to me, the looks matter a hell lot. it doesn't matter whether is simple or complex - as long as it looks good and elegant!

So if it looks good and submits sites with out good content thats ok....

So if it looks good and has no key words thats ok....

so if it looks good and has low page index that ok....

If i saw a the prettiest site in the world, and was missing 3 of the obove i would delete them...

If i saw a dog ugly plain site with all of the obove i would submit it...

I dont want my directory weighed down by any pretty site that doesn,t do the job, and same with ugly ones.......this goes for who i submit too as well...

What are you going to gain through a template that has no index, no pr., no popularity,no serp....Its pretty this should take you far in the directory business...I could write seo on my site nice and exotic that would be a nice professional front page on an seo site.

Precisely. If the owner can't make an effort to have a clean looking directory (at the very least), then how can you know that they will do anything else right along the way?
