Directory Ranking Project
Hi V7n buddies,

I created Directory Ranking a pet project to help benchmark the link power of directories, any feedback is appreciated.

What this site is all about?

Ever wondered if the links you get from directories really give you juice, this site answers this question.

How it works!

Every directory that participates must list this site as they would do for normal listings.

Then using these backlink commands at google, yahoo and msn we sort the links ordered by descending link power. If you do not agree with any of this metrics you can use your own, the objective of this site is to create a neutral resource that enables you to do that.

I Have a directory how I can participate?

If you have a directory you only have to list this site as you would list a regular submission using this information, ideally the listing will be at level 2 and 1 click of the homepage, if you have more than one page ideally the listing would be featured to insure you don’t lose ranking.

I don’t have a directory can I participate?

Yes, you can point a link to us from any page with doesn't count for the directory ranking but you will be able for example to compare the power of your link with the links of directories.

Is that Simple…

This is a now profit project all revenue (if any) after expenses will be donated to charity.

At this moment I am searching for someone to create a script for automatic directory ranking, so it can be updated daily.

I ask all directory owners if they could please list the site using “Directory Ranking” anchor the description could be the supplied or other you create, so we are able to have an extensive ranking listing.

I already submitted to 300 free directories and 40 paid directories that agreed to include the link for free.

Ask Directory is one of the leading up and coming directories.

The owner is serious, both about his directory and about investigating what makes a directory a quality directory.

While elsewhere I've expressed some reservations about the methodology used in his approach above, the least that can be said is that Ask Directory is actively investigating and testing things out, rather than sitting in an armchair making snide remarks about others.

I'm proud to be participating in this project and I know that several other major directory owners are doing the same.

To specifically address the issues raised above, you're free to remove the link to his site once the project is finished. As well, ranking for "Directory Ranking" is not exactly a phrase that's going to help him out much.

Thank you very much Jeff for the support.

My idea is to make it an ongoing tool, but people are free to list or to remove the listing whenever they like.

I think directory owners have much to gain being listed at least the first positions, they will get wiling to submit targeted traffic.

Regarding the methodology, from my experience yahoo backlink is the most accurate benchmark, others will disagree but the basic idea they have a website that several directories point to and they can use any other form of ranking they like.

Some will find the google search for “directoryranking.com” to be more revealing; they are free to use what they like.

I believe every directory is an up and coming directory, and we all know how web directories power. Its not a big secret that web directories advertise, and send traffic, as far as index you need to be able to send, and pull through content in site...( and content submitted)

Im not saying ask.. doesnt have a decent idea, but some sites have removed my link, and it still shows up on my board after its been spidered.

As far as major directories participating since ask hasn't done any test yet how do i know who those major directories are. If you mean pr., and popularity is power ..... a great % of seo's will beg to differ. They would much rather have serp and index on the board.

I do Agree to a point that popularity shows that my company will be seen under the right paid link, But PR is just a tool for google to give and take away at will.

Ask Directory set this site up just for the research - it wasn't a pre-existing site, nor is it monetizing anything.
