Q. Are you able to give us a short insight into your background?

For most of my life, I consulted as a Systems Analyst and owned my own computer consulting company. In my late 30s I sold the company and retired. I then traveled and did some major home renovations. About six months later, as the days started getting shorter, I started looking for something else to do. I had some experience as an amateur card counter so I started a blackjack site. Even though I had a computer background I knew next to nothing about building web sites. Three years later, I have diversified into 30 websites. I spend most of my effort on Best Web Directories.


Q. How did the idea of Best Web Directories come to you?

The idea for the site came to me early in the directory craze. It took a long time to submit in those days so I saw a need for unbiased directory information. I found that the few sites that were around tended to be superficial and self-serving.

Q. What was your biggest challenge getting the Best Web Directories to where it is now?

My biggest challenge is the undisputed fact that submitting to directories can be very tedious, not to mention keeping meticulous records of the submission and approvals. I have a spreadsheet with 1700 rows of submissions (many directories have been submitted to multiple times). Another challenge is keeping the site up-to-date. I slacked off over the summer and couldn’t believe how fast the information lost its usefulness.

Q. What promotion methods do you use to make people aware of Best Web Directories?

I submit to a lot of directories along with some advertising. I also try to stay active in the forums. I pay attention to how and where I advertise. This process has worked very well as the site is ranking incredibly well in Google and Yahoo. When I’m not number 1 its often because of DMOZ, Yahoo and Google’s directories are ahead of me.

No, i just bought name with expencive sound and was thinking to sell it. But later i changed my mind.

I think your sites infomative, but i looked in what they call the strongest links in free directory, and didn't see my site...my serp posions are higher....i have pr4...with 1-3 on back page, but i like your site anyway.

web directory, free , submit are some of the bigs, there are hundreds and the same sites show up on every major search, but no matter what you see the same ones at the top of the board.

These are the top serp in google

best of the web
hotsheet
maxlink
These are all front page directories in web directory/ any category key words they own in there site your looking at the biggest engine above for pushing your site.

the site submitting i like to call the driver of the engine.....
If the keywords in the site submitting are relative to the category they submitted to the engine will push them.... if they are not ....these powerful engines cannot pull you to the top of the search.

Its not what key words im looking at that matters....

are these other sites in...

Web directory, free web directory, local and regional directory, local and regional web directory,regional web directory, local web directory these are some of the big web directory categories.

This is a web directories purpose, and duty to the submitter.(done)

OK, I understand what you're saying.

But the reality is that the term "web directory" and the similar terms you listed are very competitive and the payoff for ranking well for them is small.

I think a lot of directory owners ignore ranking for these terms and instead try to rank for less competitive terms that bring useful traffic to people who have submitted websites.

Local and regional directory im on the top of every search...

regional web directory- im front page google an yahoo as well as many other searches.


im in the high local directory categories....I guess the reason im alittle upset is your right that is hard work, and when people show the strongest links im not in it....... i have pr 4 with 3 back page and high serp....wow ... what does a site want for free.....i get 500 links a day, but 80% is spam... im over it next update most likely ill have high pr.... im paid only....sorry about my frustration but ive worked many of hours for people not to notice the power of my site.
