Reciprocal Linking

Lets say i had on an ave of 5 out of 10 webmasters linking bad content to my site on a recip. 1/2 of my content to site would suck.

I guess what im trying to say......If im going to take my time and energy building a web directory.....Wouldn't you want it to be the best it could be instead of short cutting it.
Or submitting to 50,000 who knows whats for $45, because i want to take the easy way out.
I dont get it....There is no easy way, and there is no free money to be made with a directory unless your careful, and learn the business.
As far as im concered your quitting before you get started.....When you buy 50,000 links or your to lazy to submit to a quality sites....Or your to lazy to find a relative site thats not going to ancore your site through reciprocals. Why would somebody ever

for this link from somebody that promotes these
activities?

For one we are not the biggest seach in the world ...we are directories, and we live and breath off of good relative content.....This in turn builds a very strong directory. By being link partners with in undesirable site just to get a link this will ancore your web site....So if you believe reciprocal linking is great thats up to you as a webmaster.

I was pointing to the fact that Google are clearly getting fed up with directories relying on reciprocal linking, there are a lot out there. Me? I personally don't use reciprocals but as you say it is a personal preference of the webmaster.

No need to apologise, although I have to as I'm so late in replying, been in hosptital.

I actually think reciprocal linking is now one of the worst things you can do, more-so as so many directories do it. All it does is create duplicate content if you ask me and thats killing the credability of directories. I'm with you, content is King.

Your also right that its the choice of the owner of the directory of whether they want reciprocal linking, thats why I buillt a 'switch on or off' option in my directory script phpLynx. I wont use it though.

Not many of the directories I am listed in show up in my backlinks. Are they not counting?

It takes time and Google is the worst for showing your full list of links

That's a very good question, it may be that they are not getting indexed by search engines as they are too deep as I heard somewhere that bots can get fed up crawling and if they hit a glitch in a sitemap this can actually prevent the bot from going further.

Yes, I would imagine being on like the 50'th page in a category is as good as not being there at all. If a directory is good and you really want the benefit of the link, it's probably best to pay for a featured listing.

I agree that reciprocal links are getting worth less and less. So getting a listing in a directory is good if you get a link from the DMOZ and Yahoo or some high ranking directory of at least a PR 4 or up.

Being listed on the 50th page would be as useful as a woodpecker with rubber lips.
