What is more important -PR or Page Strength?

With so many PR6 directories coming up--

I am wondering what is more important to judge the quality of a directory---

Is it PR or
Page Strength?

I saw some directories--with PR6 and Page Strength of 2.5 and some directories with PR5 but has Page strength of 6.

Let us discuss here about different views--so that we can enrich ourshelves.

Any of the 2 ratings is limited, careful detailed review is the most effective method.

If you are talking about the page stregth tool (it was seomoz i guess) with page strength, i think that tool is totally useless. Think about it a little bit, do those guys have tons of servers which make google's own calculation in seconds or are they smarter than google engineers? That is just funny.

You can not decide on page strength of a site by just looking at that tool or number of backlinks. The correct term is trust rank and only google knows/decide it. You can only guess trustrank of a directory by looking how deep PR is propogated but that is obviously a very rough estimate.

So my answer is trust rank is the most important which is different than page strength.

I think a good benchmark is to look at the cache date on homepage and internal pages, the older the date the less trust the site as.

Page strength can be checked here
http://www.seomoz.org/page-strength

While there are lots of PR6 directories--not many have great page-strength. Page-strength is the valuation of a sites popularity throught out the web measurement of its total backlinks, how many important sites are listed there etc. etc.

Look at the combination of both. IMO a PR 6 site with 10 back link is not a very strong site and will loose it's PR. Page strength tells a lot about the site and I think is a useful tool. Even though there weight-age to "del.icio.us" and "Technorati" is useless.

I dont agree. If there is no possibility to loose those 10 links, a PR6 site with 10 backlinks is much more trusted than a PR6 site with 10000 backlinks. If the site linking to you is trusted you can be PR4 even if it links you from a PR5 page. I saw this on some sites. They just got a link from an inner PR5 page of a PR6 site, and became PR4 in the next update. (no more backlinks!)

That isn't used by any search engines, so I doubt your SEOmoz Page Strength means much.

Lol--John
I didn't mean that!

Well, I put up this question because- I have recently bought 2 directories and wanted to do a thorough research before I spent a penny of my limited resource on promoting them ( actually promoting only one, I think it is better to go slow ).

After silently reading through - all these answers and several other sources,
I have come to the conclusion that-- both are equally important.

While except big G- nobody can really say something about PR or PS authentically- I think they provide us little bit of insight into the status of a website in question-regarding the age of domain, backlink strength etc.
And by reading Google's guidelines we can make our own judgements.
I am following this policy and adjusting it with my limited resource

I agree with casperl- I am now associated with a site that has exactly 3 Google backlinks --one of them PR3 from member's profile of a forum-- and it is PR3.

It ranks first on MSN, Yahoo and Altavista with the targetted phrase--but can not be found anywhere on Google search. I reckon -Google gives a lot of wieght on number of backlinks ( no matter if with PR value or not).

More import is traffic that directory send to you.
I would like more to have 20 really visitors every day from directories with very weak PR and page strength than 0 visitors from directory with high PR and good page strength.
But because many of directories does not send any traffic at all i agree with theory that both are equally important.

CONTENT is what controls positioning.... not pr.

In order to get serp posioning you must submit to high search positioning web directories in your categories.

I could be a pr9 with a pr8 back page, and be listed on the 9000th page in the searches because my content isnt any good, and this site will ancore my site on content.

Im a pr4, and my directory blows away pr.8s,9s,and 10s on positioning in many key words in all searches in my categories, because my sites #1 position in local and regional directory, and many keywords in this category.

I only submit to directories that have my site content, and are high SERP position.
