Building a Search Directory
What features would you like to see in search directories
What features really annoy you
What do you think they should feature
Really anything if you have to say about what Search Directories should or shouldn't have post here
Why am I posting this?
I am posting this because I am making a search directory myself and I would like to hear your views on the subject. I want to create one of the most user friendly and enjoyable search directories around.

Is it going to be a general, drill down to what you want, directory like DMOZ and the rest, or something different?

I want a directory like DMOZ in essence but I want it to have something extra, something different. I am working on creating a forum for each category, for general chat, for editor chat and for asking why whoever it was wasn't listed

Please don't take this question in a negative way, because it's not negative - I'm genuinely curious. Why do you want to create a general directory?
I wish you well with it, but you have an enormous amount of work ahead of you. Directories require adding sites by hand, otherwise they are extremely easy to abuse. Creating a directory by hand is an awsome task, and to create one to rival DMOZ is impossible for just a handful of people. Have you thought of limiting it to one particular category so that it will always have a reasonable number of results to show - something like Aardvark's directories. Additional categories could be added over time.
Still, I wish you well with it.

I am going to build it up slowly and I am not planning on making it as big as DMOZ. I am hoping it will work out well. I still need a few editors though to start it off. I have 2 editors and myself at the moment.

A directory is a lot of work. and seems like that you will never get finished. I've been working on a dir for months. I finally got the framework up but adding links just tiring. I taking a break from it but (it's still there) I sometimes wonder if I will every release it to the public...
Good luck though.

I looked on their site and it's £13.99. How come you found it for a tenner?

Oh 13.99?
IT came to 15 with p+p and VAT.
I think w/o VAT its maybe a tenner?
However the best site on the net for stuff like this is eclipse-computers.com - WARNING WARNING WARNING - DO NOT GO TO THE SITE IF YOU DONT HAVE JAVA ENABLED, IT WILL CRASH YOUR PC - i am talking from personal experience!

It's £13.99 inc VAT + P&P = £15.75, so I guess we're looking at the same thing. Darned good price for a cordless optical! I think I'll get one.

That other site does weird things to the computer even with java on. It would be a good idea to edit your post and make the url unclickable - remove the www or surround it in brackets.

I know it is so off the point but I trust DABS (I have bought loads from them)
Members to my forum :: Well they will come in time
Editors :: For now 10 would be good but I expect that amount to increase
