How might search.wikia.com impact SEO & directories?

I have just started a niche directory and have bought quite a few links this past month.

Today, I read an article on search.wikia.com, and was wondering about an Internet in which search.wikia.com reigns supreme.

I know that the Internet now has more than 100 million websites and it's going to be no mean feat to sift through all of them. The volunteer participation that search.wikia.com may depend on may be bought or otherwise subverted.

What do you guys think about this stuff? Am I overly concerned or do you see a future for directories inspite of everything?

In simpler terms: are directories doomed if search.wikia.com rules or do you think Google will survive search.wikia.com's coming?

Remember, at one time there was something called altavista.digital.com . Could google go the same way?
