top traffic directories
I know that almost nobody lists in directories to gain direct traffic, but anyway - what are from your experience top directories as for direct visitors effect?

Try the bigger directories. There will be some people looking for information there. Like BOTW and GoGuides and so on.
However, a niche directory would probably have a lot of good traffic.

Yea, the niche directories can help you a lot, also try out to get listed in dmoz and yahoo directories that can be considered top traffic directories, IMO.

So far I have paid submitedge for registration in 100 free directories. They did they job fine, just hope that all these dirs are not marked by Google as seo-purpose only. Except of this, I started to hand register in niche directories.
The problem with this project has (1) no budget and (2) no time, since it is not my clients website, it is my own and a my partner's. The industry is competetive - tourism, big city. Thus I am looking for a way to get at least some hits soon, with low budget, just to encourage my partner who is writing the articles.
To all who responded: thank you for your tips.

Why are you paying to submit to free directories?

They did it for 9 USD. I value my time more than 9 USD/hour and I am pretty sure that I would need more time to find, install and use some submission soft. Not mentioning manual submission.

So you paid somebody to submit, not the directories themselves?

Kingbloom is well worth submitting to. It is one I see all the time in my logs for bringing traffic to my sites.

Yes it’s true, Automated boots looking for broken links….
The true nobody searches directories anymore you don’t get significant traffic even from DMOZ and Yahoo directory, unless you are lucky and the page you have the listing is high on the search results.
For example I have this detail page http://ask-dir.com/detail/link-533.html that ranks very high for a loot of competitive and “long tail” searches about Dubai Stay so this listings gets a good amount of traffic.

http://www.submitedge.com/
They seems to have the submission automated pretty good. Some of the dirs already comfirmed that the link is accepted.

This should be possible to confirm from the logs. It these are just bots, they will spend very little time on the page.

For traffic, go to niche directories
Look for more focus/deep niche that offer more than just basic listing.

I think its also depends on the topic/theme of the site and the category. Generally a directory gets a very few visitors from other directories. One of my site(non-directory) gets around 20-25 visitors daily from Dmoz but another site gets 2-5 per month.

Every site at rankland has details to see the traffic the submitted site is getting......Some of the sites are close to 200 hits on a genral directory, and the site is a little over 1 yr old.
Genral directories are useful if the webmaster checks the site before submitting...
