Do you think Google are possibly aiming at the mass of directories and other scripts that have flooded the internet with this
'you buy a link off me and I'll buy a link from you' kind of thing? Also that bullshit dollarlinking system isn't doing anyone favours, what's that crap all about? It's nothing but speculated PR chasing effectively 'selling' Google a product. It certainly can't call itself a directory as it doesn't even fall under the defenition? Google have warned time and again against this crap but the quick buck merchants think they know it all and will spoil if for the serious directory owner.
Decent directories that have demonstrated over a fair period of time (I mean at least over a year or so) are unlikely to be affected even if they do charge, it will be the ones that have sprung up over the past X amount of months with the sole aim of selling links, often for PR chasers. Directories have a lawful right to sell links, to deny them of this would be abuse, sites other than directories will not be touched either I suspect for this again would be abuse of monopoly.
This is only an opinion though and I may be well off the mark. If I'm honest I don't think Google should be playing God, they sell links just as anyone else does, and as much as I don't like the dollarlinking type systems, I have to applaud thier desire to have a go at making money. What are Google saying, only they are allowed?
