web directories, starting a new one, and questions

Guys i got a question, which I know a lot about seo, php, mysql you name it, but I'm starting a new web directory, and I'm just curious if any of you have a larger directory, I'm looking for high end text links to purchase, and I'm wondering a good way to get links for it basically which granted I know I can buy links, but every one wants 20-40 dollars a pop, I guess I will have to buy high end links, if I want high end directory.

Any one give me a feed back on how they started there directory? I plan on putting about 1-2k into it a month at first, then slowing down, until I start getting links into it, but of course the more links that are in the directory the more higher pr, and links I willl have to buy in general to keep the google juice up in it.

One way to go is submitting your site for listing in the best directories where you can get traffic & relevant backlinks in the same time.
