Smile I'm now an editor on dmoz

I've just had my application to become an editor on dmoz accepted Please don't ask me to submit your sites though coz I only edit 1 category so I probably can't help

Just wondering if anyone else here is an editor and what advice they would give for a newbie. I've read the guidlines and it all seems clear. It doesn't say anything about submitting your own site. Is that frowned upon even if its a relevant site?

Advice: Use the DMOZ internal forums to ask questions to other editors about advice.

Thanks for the advice. I will trawl the dmoz forum and see if anybody else has posted similar questions

It took about a week from sending my application to being accepted as an editor. The application form is pretty straight forward.

The best advice I could give is to apply to be an editor of a category you will be of benefit to. You need to show how your experience will help that category.

Also apply for a category which does not already have an editor

I think such posts don't belong here. Use dmoz's forums instead (not public, but those which aren't available to non-editors).

Telling people about you're an editor might end in messages which don't have anything to do with your category, etc. People will (and they did it already!) ask you about "how to become an editor".

For those who ask how to become an editor, there's no general rule of how to write your application form in order to be accepted.

Congratulation! You can add your own web site (quality site and must meets the ODP guidelines) if category related S_____T____ 's Fan club site. Don't forget to declare your affiliations inside Editor's main page.

You may notice that at no point have I mentioned which category I edit or what my editor name is. So I don't understand how your first point is valid.

As for people asking how to become an editor, I just stated the obvious. You do need to show how you can contribute to the category your applying for.

1: People don't understand that new editors can edit 1 category only.

2: Even if you show them how you can contribute, they can reject your application. It depends on that which meta editor reviews your application, etc.

I would love to create a site that could get fast included into DMOZ on any subject. By being included in DMOZ you could use that as an Authority site on topic X and on topic X's site have a article about you real site.

Of course you would NOT have the article on there during the application process.

It depends on backlog and each editor. Since it's not paid job, there's no guarantee of how fast your site goes through review.
