Multiple DMOZ category submitting

Does anyone know what the Dmoz policies are regarding multiple listings and if it's frowned upon? I don't want to jeopardize the listing I have now, but I see some competitors in totally different categories. Plus, the editor in the new cat I want to submit to looks to be fast in reviewing.

You can get at least two - a category listing and a category listing in your area. eg, business - webdesign and then France - business - webdesign.

Other big sites have multiple listings but that's jammy and lucky. Don't submit your site to loads of different categories.

I've done the regional thing, but still no listing. I'm looking at business-marketing-promotion cats instead of domain-resources which I'm in now. Don't think this is a good idea?

First, I would chase up your current pending listing here - http://www.resource-zone.com - read the guidelines and follow them to the letter.

Once you have that listing done, then concentrate on your second one.

If that other editor is fast then you could maybe risk getting in there before you ask about your existing one, but you may then get refused in the existing one because of the new listing? It's a bummer! Especially when you could probably find about 10 categories that you're eligible for.

Just pick the one prime category and concentrate on that.

I usually just sift through the dmoz categories every couple of months and see if I have any content on my site that pertains to them. I've submitted to many categories over the last few months and I've got in 4 so far. I don't see it as "spamming" dmoz if you actually have quality content that relates to the topics.

yep that is true however cos its your own website there is allot of bias into submitting into categories that are not 100% related. 1 url has one maybe 2 listings. If however you are content site and have relative pages you could submit those urls too.

Even though I manage a category and active on DMOZ forum I still have no idea where my own portfolio is – I submitted it 2 or 3 years ago!

I url in one category is preferred. If your domain has many areas that contain significant amounts of information then maybe those sections can also be submitted to other categories, but these are reserved for large sites.

As for regional listing as well I am not too sure on this issue and would say you should only be listed in the regional bit if you dont cover the larger area.

DMOZ will list sites in two separate categories sometimes. it really depends though. for example, I listed my site in the local internet business section in rhode island when that is where i lived.

i later tried to submit it to the seo firm category and that editor had my other entry deleted.

some editors have different standards than others. it can work out good sometimes and sometimes you can get the bad deal...

Ya. OPEN directory seems to have CLOSED their workout.

I checked my site, it was not listed.

I tried a friend's site, it was not there.

I even tried a competitor site, but no luck.

I also tried www.internet-marketing-research.net, but it was not listed.

Than I tried couple of famous websites like amazon, google, elance, ebay, aol but none are listed.

I doubt I am using the right method to find whether site is listed or not.

For e.g. I typed www.internet-marketing-research.net in search at dmoz.org.

That's the right method i guess. Or am i wrong?

But do dmoz ban you for submitting in multiple categories or just a deletion...

How come?

QUality content is one thing but what happened to warning by dmoz which said "submit only to 1 category"

Tons of sites have quality content but they're still waiting.

You are lucky.

it just depends on where the site exists in the category structure of each directory. for example I was able to list one of my sites in a PR7 category of Yahoo!.

that same site is listed in a PR 5 category at DMOZ.

when submitting to a category of a directory I usually try to think of a couple things.

1.) is this category relevant to my site
2.) where does this category fit in the directory at.
3.) are there reasons people outside of this normal directory structure would link into this page or pages near it.

i think a lot depends on the editor as well...sometimes you get editors that are more lenient than others. (being an editor myself )
