yes but in my experience, even BOTW if it does bring you traffic, it will be no more then 5 a day,
people use yahoo , google, yellowpages, dmoz well knowing directories like this to search, these little dinky ones are ok for backlinks

I saw many dinky ones getting big ones, you never know, never underestimate those.

littlephoenix I can give you a good example. In May 2006 the directory www.linkforever.net was starting, I get listed in June 2006, check the result of this directory now, the owner did a great job.
This directory bring me traffic. It is like any other business, if you don't give a chance to someone, you will never know what this person is capable, this is why I never underestimate the young directories owners.
It doesn't mean I am listing my sites on every directories, but directories that provide unique design, not a lot ads and categories related to my sites.
Hope to help.

I agree deep pages listed on directories are only good for backlinks.

have you tried with free directories.... dont go for paid unless you have free since this is not the guarantee tag for any directory as its paid so they will give you traffic...
most of all... directories cannot be a source for traffic ... they can only be a source for generating backlinks and etc...

If you've got a few hundred backlinks on directories, sure this is not a source of traffic.
How do you think sites get 5k or 10k backlinks? recipro ? lol

What I meant was where are you going to get 5000 to 10,000 backinks? with reciprocity links?
In my opinion the best mix are free directories, pay directories and extras links from related business.

i think its good to try listing in free directories but at the same time the quality directories are the ones that have better ranking, hence better for your site.

to build 5k or 10k links takes years and years of hard work, nothing overnight

Yep in 2006, took me 6 months, 16 hours per day and no week end for 2 months, how precise is that? lol
After 6 months I slow it down, then submitted with more care as Google put more and more algo filters.
Now when I check my backlinks some old link appear in SR. I can tell you I am more and more selective when I submit on free or pay directories.

I only check the top 5 sources for my sites -- none of those are directories ... but then I only buy links for PR / SERPS so I'm not too bothered!
