Do not submit to directory sites!!! You'll lose some traffic!
I started w/ PR 0 but now it's at PR 1 (yeah, still long way to go). I did this by submitting to 100+ directory sites (used some auto submit program). Now... I regret doing this... why? most corporate office blocked my site!!! (yes..even at my work!). I imagine this happened cuz I submitted to some entertainment directory!... now my # of hits has decreased 30%.. it sux~~ So learn my lesson and don't submit to any directory site! I understand it depends on your audience.. for me it's day time office people.

Unfortunately, the criteria of the initial post has dropped my IQ by 150 points(pretty damn steep drop i must admit) to a paltry zero.
Oh well, At least I can still see!

I still do not have a clue why it would affect your audience?

It depends on what directory you submit and how quality your sites are.

He is saying, that by the type of directories he has submitted in, that somehow this has triggered that his site is "entertainment" and as such is blocked by filters installed in company networks to block such sites.
His audience is business, and his traffic is mainly during business hours.
Man! Don't you guys read English

Even if you did submit to 100+ directories, I really doubt that it will be sufficient to trigger off any proxy blacklist or something.

Directories don't trigger filters. On-page text does that.

Yeah that's what I thought too. So, I went home and created a dummy blank page with nothing on it... it was still blocked when tried it at work. For a moment, I thought it was just my work admins who blocked it but I received quite a few messages from the people (from different network/company across u.s.) having the same problem. My 2 cent guess is that all these corp uses some global filters where they search for "Entertainment" site from "Directory" site that specializes in "Entertainment" and block their url/ip. I could be very wrong but one thing for sure, it wasn't filtered by text.

A blank page on the same domain?
What is the URL that you submitted?

I really doubt that your traffic dropped because of submitting to directories.
I think that your ranking dropped because you've used some auto submitting software which probably sent several hundreds requests to Google 'add site' itself.

Isn't that the one submitting to directories?
John,
I'll compile a list of directories that accepted my sites. But, I wouldn't know which one caused a trigger or any of them. All I know is that after I've used that software....my site is filtered....
Perhaps, I should've said DON'T USE ANY AUTO SUBMITTING TOOL!!!

THE SITE YOU SUBMITTED. Not the sites that accepted your submission. I'm asking what is the URL of the site that you think is blocked by some work filters.

You have a site with "the smell of sex" on the index page and you wonder why work-filters are filtering your site? You're kidding, right? Is this a moron convention?
