The Best Directory?
What is the best directory to have an inbound link from? It is DMOZ? How much pull can one inbound link have on your SEO rankings?

It depends on what type of web site you have, but if you had to pick one it would probably be DMOZ because quite a few other directories use their data.

But with one backlink from trusted directory you can't do much.

The Google Directory is just a modified version of DMOZ. One link other than DMOZ? For me it would be Search Monster.org. You can do a lot with that listing because you can also submitt unlimited articles and press releases and they have a high ranking in Google.

If you have the money sure, but for the same amount of money you could purchase maybe 15-20 permanent listings from very solid directories. But the question is if you were going to have just one inbound link which should it be? The original author of this post didn't mention money or value, so yes I would have to agree with you sourcer, Yahoo.dir or Business.com would be a compelling argument.

LOL........so you would be the first person in here that I haven't pissed off......yet. Starting Point Directory is pretty solid also, but being a page rank seven they don't get crawled very often. I have a listing in Starting Point directory, the page that I am on has a GBPR of six but hasn't been crawled since April 26th........hmm...I wonder why?

Google is a lot of things but mostly a search engine. They do have a directory, but it is just a download (mirror) from the DMOZ.

Submitting to DMOZ is very simple but getting listed in it is nearer to impossible i.e. it takes very long time to list the site in its directory.

If you want to submit to DMOZ create a unique and quality content. Just submit ones and wait for six months and a year for approval.

I can't decide what directory is the best but as long as the directory contains related links in each category and all site was a quality site. I think it could help improving rankings.

I actually got listed in DMOZ after about a month...I must have just been lucky because there is nothing special about my site.

I agree. Yahoo directory is actually a good investment. (Many people don't realize that it's free for non-profits.) You get a lot of links from their international directories as well and each of those is a subdomain so they count as a separate domain to Google.
BOTW is great too, as is V7N Directory.
