Im interested in knowing how different web masters promote there web directories?

By posting in forums,
Buying links on other directories
link in new letters etc..,

also google adwords,own affiliate program etc.,

I promote my directory through forums. directories, directory lists, blogs, social networking, and text links.

Other than the norm of directories/ the odvious/does anybody have any good ideas on front page posting for promotion.

i usually promote my web directory by, free/paid directory submission, also forum signature link is a nice way to promote directories or anyother site!

but then, making a highest bid on bid directory is the best way as the visibility is nice, and on high pr bid directory it is pretty helpful also, as the top10 listings are on the homepage!!

Rankland,
Try to get you some nice links/image ads/banners on the main SEO forums, blogs and directories around. That should boost your directory. Also Google AdSense might help.

In the beginning you should promote directory like any other site by submitting in other directories, exchanging links, articles etc... If your directory became pretty popular and you make money, you have to spend some profits and buy banners / txt links on the most popular SEO sites to let everyone know that you exist and it worth to submit.

Here are a few techniques:

1. Submit to other directories
2. Write a few unique content articles and submit each of then in different places.
3. Invest a lot of money in advertising.

There are several ways just find out what works for your, when promoting a web directory generally you don't use search traffic to generate inclusions. What you do is create something that relevant to the directory for example get a blog going with tons of community interest thats referring to "seo", and advertise you r web directory through the blog.

For example look at v7n.com why is there directory so well branded its because John put the time into it, and branded is directories with community interest it would been pretty hard to get them recognized with out so much traffic coming to the site, but there are several ways thats just a well recognized way in my opinion.

Just build a good directory, brand it, and then identify it as the best! (speaking it has quality links)

I do all of those things, but i also sponsor directory contest and directory templates when I can. These things have increased my traffic 10 fold!

Buy Sig Links everywhere you can on webmaster msg boards. They are most likely to submit. Good luck and remembe PR is cool but traffic brings in the $.

i recommend sponsoring a few templates this does bring some traffic but mainly a good way of increasing your backlinks

For me submitting to directories, bookmarking, promoting to classifieds and some group posting helps too!

Im thinking that getting alot of sig links, put all my key words in adsence, and buy some front page quality pr. sites is going to be the way to go.

I don't hear this very often, but I agree that traffic brings links in from Webmasters looking for exposure.

Also, rankland, I noticed you were advertising using Adwords ("Web Directory") and THAT'S a great idea. It shows you're unafraid to invest in getting traffic.
