Really strange.

Yeah it is and there must be something which must be not in favor of Google's guidelines which has resulted in the ban. Sometimes it happens unknowingly too which really sucks.

That must be very rare. In most cases webmasters are well aware of the risks.

Yeah certainly and in the case of uncoverthenet.com I'm sure they must be well aware of what they have done for that unwanted result.

It might be a glitch, and not a ban. The link: command still shows backlinks.

According to Compete.com ( http://siteanalytics.compete.com/uncoverthenet.com) they got 864000 US visitors so if you also count non-US traffic that could be true.

Hi guys,
Thanks for the concern. I don't believe we were banned, but it does appear that we have been hijacked by mywebnews.net. They have zero backlinks and already rank for many of the terms we used to. Their entire 28,000 pages they have indexed is all of our stolen content. We've been working on it the past week or so and have found some information out. I did speak to someone 'related' to google and he did not see a ban on the domain. So that looks good, I just hope we can recover it. As for how it happened, I just don't know, I wish I did. Hopefully all will be resolved in the weeks to come. Thanks for the support.

Wow. I didn't think it was possible to hijack an established site like that (at least not with the 302 hijack method).
I hope you get it resolved soon and thanks for taking the time to let us know what the situation is.

Good to hear it. Any idea on what method they used to hijack the site?

Initially my guess was, this is really just a glitch and it will be back. Since I had sites like this before. Like they were dead and banned in the SERPs, and in the past when Google Answers still existed I even used to ask there before and someone from Google would answer my site is not banned. Then after a month, it's back.
Now that Shawn mentioned the hijack, then it totally makes sense but for a single site to push the whole site away to the point that the site command shows nothing? Still looks like a glitch like what happened to some of my sites in the past.
But I started thinking the other way around... what if... it is due to the hijack and in the past with my sites that I thought was a glitch, was really some 302 hijack was going on during the times I was not aware of it yet?
