How much revenue can one make with an "average" directory?
How much revenue can one make with an "average" directory assuming they promote regularly, are human edited and say have a pr of 4-5?
*Noting that many do not want to reveal such a personal question the disclaimer and answers can be what you have heard others to make**

PR 4 and PR 5 would probably be pretty different. I woulf think you need PR 5 to make real money. Even then PR 5 directories are pretty common...

Well I make an average of $400 p/m from a PR3 directory.
Any directory can make money (although that may change with the current attack by Google on the industry) but to really make it profitable you need to work at it and push it beyond the boundaries of 'average'.

Why would you want to be average? The sky`s the limit if you have the skills and will go the extra mile. Like any other website owner. You dont just buy a script host it and make money.... its hard work, which alot just dont seem to get....

It's not really a matter of hours as much as expense. Promoting costs money.

At the peak, I spent over $10,000 a month, mostly on ad and link buys. Nowadays, that kind of aggressive link buying will get you on Google's ****list.
My philosophy with v7n directory is a much more mature philosophy, IMO. It's more about creating a quality directory, with a lot of organic listings. Paid listings are good, too, but the majority should be organic, IMO. List a lot of respected authority sites, and provide a directory that Google or any other search engine can look at and find no fault with.

This is exactly the point, a directory that needs to do good, must add sites on there own, linking to good sites naturally always helps. And sometimes you can even get a backlink from those quality websites!
cheers,

I have a PR3 directory and it gives me about USD 150/month. Not much but ok commensurate with the efforts put in.

An organically developed directory is slow but the best way to go with a directory.

Average can be very dull for those whom have bigger ambitions in life i suppose
Hard work would be a very big understatement as directory links submitted change
and domains expire or get banned and theirs just never enough time in the day.
As someone mentioned above directories will always remain on the internet as links are
search engines main foundation for gathering data. Quality directories that are meticulously
cared for that offer more will always remain on the web as thiers always the need for information.
As for the Poll... john scott said it well
thx
