Free listing in Yahoo Directory

Sometimes the following works to obtain a free directory listing in Yahoo.

http://au.docs.yahoo.com/info/suggest.html

It will not give you a listing in the US Yahoo directory, but it can give you a free listing in their directories for other countries. I've had this work even if the site is a US site. Does not always work, but it is a nice way to potentially save 300/yr

Anyone else try this? Have comments.

Best of luck. As mentioned, sometimes it works others not. Also, there are other Yahoo country directories available besides that listed that do not charge a review fee.

You are right, taking a long way passing Australia helps:
I must ocnfess it took me some time to figure out, it looks like yahoo doens't want you to find this possibility :-)

The first one has the option: "suggest a link" totally at the bottom of the page.
The second one hasn't.

and i hit submit it took me to

says i have to select a right category for the form to show!

i cant go any deeper,....what am i missing!

It is certainly a coin toss - no question. I also noticed it is not available in all categories. While, the best way to ensure a listing is to pay the $300/yr. Still, if you are able to make in in the directory using this trick you can save quite a bit over the lifetime of a site. There are other directories besides the Australian one that you can try.

Two weeks is not much time. It is a free listing and Yahoo lets you know that they are overwhelmed. If they list your site then it will probably take a few months.

I suggest that those interested in having a listing fast with a high likelihood Yahoo accepting the site pay the 299/yr.

I would say that depends upon the opportunity costs involved.

i.e.

on Doc1Vitamins what are new customers worth?

Does it cost more money to potentially lose new customers while waiting for the possibility that a free listing will kick in? Or is it worth spending the 299/yr and receiving a listing within 7 days.

For many site owners seriously interested in marketing their site. The 299/yr can be well worth the investment.
