When you pay you make an agreement between buyer and seller, the seller has an obligation to provide the service that you paid for (and agreed to).
Generally this will be explained in the terms and conditions, for a paid "permanent" listing I would expect this to be for the lifetime of the directory itself.
Of course this is open to interpretation. The owner could re-brand and call it a "new directory" hence the old one has come to the end of its "lifetime".
Also if you were to dispute a listing that has been removed you would need to prove what you agreed to, ie. have a copy of the original terms, and show proof of what and when you paid.
Also if the terms say "we reserve the right to remove any listing at anytime without notice" they when you buy you agree to this and have no recourse what so ever.
So, the fundamentals are; there is more or less nothing you can do apart from complain, and make your complaints known to others.
The lesson is to buy from reputable, well established directories that have a track record of providing exactly what they say they will.
