Which Software to use for making directory

Hi, I have bought few domains to create directory.
I need to know which directory script is best to use and what features to look for.
Being a SEO guy I would prefer a script that creates urls like www.example.com/websitename.html

Just wanted to add few more things ...

1. How good are free PHP directory scripts ? Should I go for free or paid directory script ?
2. What features should I look for in a good directory script.

I'm very happy with php link directory

Check out the site, their forums, and if you're sold on going with the most popular directory script available I strongly recommend the paid v3.2 with the access to 3.2 forum support. Total price tag: $35 or $85 w/o footer link to phpLD.

All sites in my signature are phpLD based.

Best of success to you.

Phpld is a strong script.

I suggest you also tale a look at indexscript.com. It is lighter and I prefer it over phpld.

Thanks mauiman and ScriptMan but as I mentioned I want a script that creates urls like www.example.com/websitename.html ( that is an intro page ) for the webmasters/siteowners.

So the structure would be like categories >> Subcategories >> Links >> unique page with whatever data they want and link to their website, email ID or contact form etc.

Maybe I don't understand. Do you have an example site somewhere?

The latest indexscript does allow for deep linking.

just find a web directory that you like, scroll to the bottom of the page, the copyright logo will tell you who made it. go to that website and download it. voila

You can check this if you want: http://www.creascripts.com/creadirectory.asp this is what I am using for my directories.

I know the owner a very nice person, he can install for you the script for free.

Thanks Natural Elements, well chk it out.

I think the directory of mauiman has what I need. He is using PHPLD. What I want is a dedicated page (like a home page) for every paid member that they can customize/personalize to some extent like choosing the template for their intro page and adding/editing the intro with facility to upload logo etc. I hope people are getting my point.

based on your posts I'm not sure a directory script is what the doctor ordered.

Maybe share your plan and expected # of paying participants and we can steer you towards a better script to achieve your goals.

I recently moved my momz and dadz directories to a /dir/ folder from the main domain to clear way for what you might be contemplating. A resource that allows members to create their own site within the community.

Cheers

I have to agree after reading his last post.

I think some form of "site builder" or "page maker" software is what he is looking for. Don't have any suggestions, just the comment.

am sorry to sound confusing but after going thru the net for few days and trying to consolidate my ideas I think I need something that has a directory, customizable profile page, mini blog, facility to write/import articles from blog to category and sub category pages of directory. There can also be a system where advertisers can buy blog articles (with links) along with directory submission and so on.

The customized profile page, IMO, can be usefull to create meaningful selling pages for clients even if they do not have a website or directory owner does not wish to link to their website to prevent google penalty. Ultimately, the aim of directory owner is to earn money and that of advertiser is to sell product/service.

I know I am still to filter out things but I guess this would be enough for you guys to start thinking on the same lines as I am thinking.
