Exclamation PAGE RANK OR TRAFFIC

Generally what is the page rank of top directories inner pages?

1) Is it the same as the page rank of their home page?
What matters most while submitting site to directories - Is it

a) the page rank of the page in which you are submitting your site

or

b) the popularity and quality of the directory?

2) As a site owner will you still keep on submitting your site to directories in the future?

As google is dropping the page rank of paid directories, then why would you submit your site? Will it be for-

a) to get back link from the directory to help in your PR

or

b) to get exposure to your site to increase the traffic

Each page has a different PR. Sometimes the homepage and the category page have the same PR...

For me, the popularity & quality of the directory

For exposure... I rarely do things to get PR.

some of your assumptions are incorrect - google did not penalize all directories and certainly not only directories.

They penalized any site that was specifically selling links just to pass pr. If they can't stop the site from selling pr they can decrease the pr's value on that site so that any site linked to from it does not get artificially inflated serps.

Those sites could have been blogs or even newspapers. There were some major newspapers that got hit, yet no one is talking about them.

Pagerank does not really matter now, I believe the quality and the traffic that the directory can deliver really matters now.

Evaluating a directory

Does Google like the directory
(can i find the directory on the first few pages of google searches based upon the type of directory it is (like travel directory or web design directory or business directory)

Is the page I want my link on within the directory indexed, and does it have a recent cache date (indicating google isn't ignoring its existence and the link will be found before I die)

Do I like the other links on the page. Are the websites quality sites or are they crap.

Does every listing have seo'ed anchor text using high demand keyphrases? I think google is smart enough to figure that out...

Does the page have hundreds of links on it.

And finally, do I think I would get some traffic from the page. If you are on page 52 of the section you choose, probably not.

Submitting your website to directories to get traffic is completely worthless in my opinion. I have some website listed in Yahoo, Business.com and Yellow pages and I get absolutely zero traffic from all of those directories plus over 1000 phpld directories. Directories in my opinion are only good for backlinks and the page that the link is on that is what counts the PR of that page not the pr of the directory

1) It depends on what kind of directory it is. Dont look for pr submitting to relevant niche directory, looking for link relevance and targeted traffic.

General directories; if its paid directory I expect traffic in return and dont mind a good pr. Free directories is a quantity issue, I know some of them will become good over time, but I dont know which one. In addition many of the free ones provide some traffic - meaning, if you are included in a thousand directories that each sends you in average one visitor a day, thats 1000 visitors.

2) Directory submission will continue, for exposure, traffic and as a part of my link building strategy.
