Established Directories Penalised - PageRank Update Conclusions
Hi Guys,
I have written an article on the analysis of the Google PageRank Update for the Web Directory Owners.
Quote:
Now here comes the pinch with this Google Update when established directories (dropped by PR) and be compared with the new directories awarded higher PR. I really don’t think PR now is the metric for comparison right now & will be influenced with many other factors.
Here are some of the conclusions that can be drawn from this PageRank Update
1. Google is not against directories (I know that this will make a lot of people happy).
2. Google is only against PAID Links and attempts to manipulate PageRank.

Is there a single most trusted web site OUT THERE that can,in retrospect, tell you whether a directory or domain you want to buy has been or is dropped by the S Engines?

Even though PR has dropped, I noticed backlinks from v7n directory are still working.

Google is against the paid directory which are selling paid links like three URL listing or deep url listing and bid web directories. Yahoo is also paid directory charging 299 USD so Google can not say that yahoo is selling paid links

I think that the only reason, Yahoo is not penalized is for the fact that it is a very big resource site and one of the biggest paid directories.

Red you are right, there are 2 directories worthy of submission, they are Yahoo and Business.com. The fact they cost around £300 a year means most people will not go down this road. I guess most people's websites are not worth this amount.

Yes the fundamental concept is selling a link. Unfortunately it was too much speculation on PR with directories. Some directory owners should focus more to bring traffic to the sites.
You said it right, PR doesn't matter.

I disagree, I think the Yahoo Directory is a waste of money. I have had a listing for six months and maybe got 10 hits in six months. It doesn't provide much traffic.

I did not mean in regards to visitors, you are right both deliver small amounts of traffic, I meant in strength of links.

I am very sorry to hear you've got only 10 hits in 6 months.
I've got 20 hits every week, I cannot say that's a lot but like businessservicesuk said, that bring a very powerful strength.
Listed in Yahoo directory is an excellent link for my business online.

If you are listed in Yahoo directory it is a good result for the site but if you are not listed and does not have traffic, it is waste of time.

I thought the main idea of listing in the ayhoo directory was not to get traffic directly from their directory service but from a 'prefered' listing in the search results.
Also, google cant say yahoo is a paid directory because yahoo massive and if google slapped their directory then yahoo would just remove all google references from their search engine. It is known as corporate courtesy, eg if you slap me, ill slap you and well both be f&#ked

It really depends where you are listed in the Y dir, which page in the category and what kind of biz.
As far as the corporate courtesy between search engines, I agree with you.

So would you guys agree, depending on what page you're on in the Yahoo directory, it could/does STILL very well pass on some good link juice?
