There are a select few directories worth buying links from (think Yahoo! Directory/BOTW/Business.com/Avivadirectory) but the wast majority of link purchases from directories will not result in worthwhile benefits.

I really don't agree with buying links...
Submitting to directories for free is fine and try to use other alternatives in order to increase your PR and get more traffic without spending a single dime...
