Is It Good To Buy A Link In A Paid Directory?

Hi Friends,

Just need a piece of your advice. I was just wondering, is it worth to get a paid link from a High PR directory. I have seen a lots of ads for paid directories with PR 7, etc., selling listings for $40, 50, etc. Does the listing in these directories, affect my PR or traffic to my site??

Of course it is good to get a high pr and to have a Link In A Paid Directory, but when google finds out that you pay for getting high indexed, what they do not want when you pay for it, they can put it out of the directoy........

Quote:
- According to this report, as many as 60 directories were penalized by Google
- The directories had dropped in rank
- Google are now specifically targeting paid link directories (as it is against Google’s Quality Guidelines)
- Competitors may have helped Google by making a report by a paid link reporting form

Big and well know directories such as Aviva, Alive, Big Web Links, Ewebpages, Directory Dump, Elegant Directory, and Biz-Dir are heavily affected and hundreds of directory pages have been removed from Google’s index.

Entirely depends on the directory. If it is promoted enough, can bring you actual traffic back, yes it does

Paid directories are well worth the investment and will help with your SERPs. Check things like the quality of sites in the directory before submitting. A link from a niche PR4 directory is better than a PR7 link from a spammy directory. Dont rely on PR either.

There are tons of great directories that "add value." You should definitely get listed in the top directories. You may see some good traffic and relevant back links are good. Even the big G dog (MC) himself recommends paid directories.

Do you mean that if, let's say I can choose between twp directories with the same PR but one is paid and the other is free, the the paid one will bring me more traffic than the free would?

generally speaking the paid ones are better taken care of and don't accept under-developed (or bad) websites as listing. So your website would be listed among other "good" websites and perhaps more relevant.

also most paid directories have many mods to improve SEO and traffic both for your listing and themselves...

In my experience it is waste of money. I have my site in every major directory Yahoo, Business.com and I have not received a single click for over a year from those directories. The only reason I have paid to have my link there is for backlinks.

For quite a while now the loudest voices telling us the benfits of such links are those of the directory owners. Funny that.

As always - I have good reason to believe that Paid directories help a site to a great extent on both Google and Yahoo.
On the other-hand I must mention that one must try to do a little bit of research on the quality of the directory- ( by quality I mean domain age, quality of listings, indexed pages etc.) before one decides on which directory to pay.

IMO- a quality directory is linkopedia.com (been rejected there twice)

In fact I'm very curious where have you seen those "lots of PR7 directories" as to my knowledge there are only very few...and to answer your question...yes...it's worth to submit to a quality paid directory

I think a lot of directories are not worth the price they charge. I believe the directory should provide a value equal or greater to the review fee. I also think that the PR of the directory doesn't always represent the quality of link you will get.
Take for example the V7N directory, just because most people are familiar with it: Its top page is showing PR3, but the quality of a link from it is very valuable. It is also because of the way it is built, I can't go into details, but by taking a quick look, you can see the categories are not stuffed full of useless sites, nor does it have empty categories.

I would say there are many directories worth their price, but you need to know what is valuable first, I believe.

What do you think?

Traffic wise - Directory backlinks can get you the right traffic that converts.

PR wise - Depends on what directory you are submitting to. A high PR directory can add value to your site as well.

Paid directory links are a good thing for traffic. Don't worry about the directory's PR or whether they use NOFOLLOW, but how well the directory is promoted and where their traffic comes from. Traffic that will click on your ads or buy your producs/services will be worth more than PR. Buying directory links based on PR is a waste of money. Their PR will probably drop when Google penalizes them for selling PR anyway.
