when you come here to post free links everything has to be free. having free links with a no follow attribute means that people post links but nearly get nothing in return. the search engines don't pick up the link as a backlink to the site if it has no follow thus not helping the website owner increase Pagerank and it doesn't help with SEO. A free link with reproticol is not free. sorry.

i suggest you to make your directory absolutely free for a week or two and start a thread in the announcement section. let the members of v7n enjoy some free links, at the same time you will enjoy the traffic and visibility! sometimes you even get featured links submitted in the process!

if you don't give absolute free links, then don't start a thread in the announcements!

No follow links don't pass any PR juice whtsoever making them useless for site owners, so why would anyone waste their time submitting links to your directory?

That's what I did with my directory. I made my directory nofollow to begin with, but anybody who replied to a thread in my forum (so they had to sign up ) got it dofollowed. Anybody who linked back got featured link status.

I disagree, unless as in the search engine sense but not in the traffic sense. Depends on the directory, if its get traffic not just about search engine hits

Another reason to spread out your links through different media. The search engines are not just wary of tags but also the types of links (all directories for example) when they look for quality. This is really not a secret since many SEO folks also know that links should come from various levels of PR.
