DMOZ listing, just got it, now what?
I just got my site, ComputerBB, listed at DMOZ here:
http://dmoz.org/Computers/Education/...and_Tutorials/
Which other sites use the DMOZ data other that Google?
For those of you still waiting a review, I submitted mine around Easter, however, I did submit an old domain which I had redirect to the new one quite some time ago.

The best thing about a link in DMOZ is not only that google uses the data but there are about 1000+ other sites that also use the same data.

the timing for DMOZ is random. I submitted one of my sites last week and it has already been listed for a few days. other sites I submitted a long time ago still have got no love.

I wouldn't call the length of time a DMOZ review takes random, per se. It really depends upon how proactive the editor for that category is (assuming there is one).
I'm the editor on a handful of categories, and I try to log in about once a week to review submissions. Other editors may not log in so often.
Also, a catagory may not have a named editor, in which case you have to wait for the editor of its parent category (or its grandparent or whatever) to get around to editing it. This can take a long time.

Hey, if I can help, I certainly will. DMOZ is a big place, however, and I'm just a little editor.

Well, this may be a religious definitional issue among mathematicians, so I won't say you are wrong.
But I WOULD call the delay for a review random, for a couple of reasons. When I edit in a category, the site I pick first to review really is close to random: I glance over the list looking for submittals that can be disposed of quickly (either quickly moved, rejected, or listed.) And whether a site falls into the "can be handled quickly enough" set depends on how long I work in that category, which is at best unpredictable. And I can't even predict which category I'll work in tomorrow.
Multiply this by thousands of editor, each using their own approach to ordering their work. Insofar as "random" is equivalent to "completely unpredictable", we've achieved it.

hey Bcombs
I read somewhere that its not a bad idea to write down the contact info of the editor of th category you are submitting to, and if in 6 weeks , still no DMOZ love, shoot him/her a quick email, kindly and gently reminding him/her about your submittal and why it belongs in the index.
What ya think?

I suppose it can't hurt, but I don't know what the official line is.
Also, I've never had anyone email me like this, but then, I generally keep up with the submissions to my categories.

I've had people email me regarding submissions in my category.....although I picked up my category from a long gone editor, with over 600 sites in the queue, some sitting there since 2002.
Its crazy....
