I guess you are asking how to optimise your site for the respective search engines. I heard that yahoo and MSN use Inktomi search engine to power thier results. So you might research into that. John has written a good article on that here :

I am not sure whether listing in Yahoo dir helps with search results in there, but I do know that it is one of the sure fire way to make sure that Google indexes you (the other is DMOZ).
One thing I can tell you, even if I am an amatuer, is to
never use automated submission softwares that 'claim' to submit to 'thousands' of engines. Those are not only inefficient, but could get your site banned.
Do all your submissions manually. It's worth the effort.
