Submitting url's to search engines

i need to get an idea of how the search engines like msn, yahoo, or aol work in comparison to google. i understand that google indexes url's for each unique visit, is yahoo similar and how can i get a site listed on the 3 engines listed previously?

thanks to anyone that can help.

not sure I understand your question

they all spider and add pages by following links. yahoo also have paid inclusion programs I generally do not recommend using. msn is powered by yahoo

the primary technologies driving the major search engines
google = anchor text and full scale view of web
teoma = clustering communities
yahoo = more of an edited approach to search which heavily relies on "on the page" copy

I guess you are asking how to optimise your site for the respective search engines. I heard that yahoo and MSN use Inktomi search engine to power thier results. So you might research into that. John has written a good article on that here : Inktomi SEO Basics

I am not sure whether listing in Yahoo dir helps with search results in there, but I do know that it is one of the sure fire way to make sure that Google indexes you (the other is DMOZ).

One thing I can tell you, even if I am an amatuer, is to never use automated submission softwares that 'claim' to submit to 'thousands' of engines. Those are not only inefficient, but could get your site banned. Do all your submissions manually. It's worth the effort.

cyberken is liked by many
Content is king, make sure your site has content and relevent META tags and ALT tags and then submit to the spiders and see the results. You just do the best you can do, review and then do it again
