My friend has a good domain for a gaming/flash/etc. type directory..
we are wondering like how profitable a new directory is.. like with paid inclusion and stuff.. any tips?

You may want to ask John about this one, but I would think it would some time before you start to see a profit on a directory. Unless it's a huge hit and you're charging a fee to get it.

its a fun gaming flash time domain and he owns a popular website that he can get us some hits to and we are both a member of an exclusive humor webmaster forum that we could get some more sites in from

off the start you should want to make the directory because you are interested in the topic.
inclusion fees are generally not very much unless you are a powerhouse directory. best bet off the start just to make one of some cool sites. i think the profits come only after you have made it of high enough quality to where a bunch of people would want to link into it free and it builds up a link popularity.

I'd imagine that'd it'd be hard to get started if you're charging for inclusion.
maybe start with the dmoz data to begin with?

If your directory doesn't get a ton of traffic, then it would have to have a ton of PR, or people won't pay to submit.
Either way, you can't just throw up a directory script and expect the money to come rolling in.

There are plenty of directories in net so i guess to ask a question how much i can earn is not quite correct one before starting a business project. What would be the good question is how your directory is different from others? and replies like it has more useful links, high PR or anything of kinda faster, better, bigger do not work here. It has to have unique idea behind. Like Dmoz is first human-edited directory, so find a category where you will be first. Once you have this i believe you can earn a lot.
