I am tired from directory lists in this forum.

I am really tired from lists of directories. Submission in 1500 directories will never help your site to rank better. Most likely you will be moved in snadbox.
It is way more useful to see list of 10-20 QUALITY directories.

I have noticed that most people who post here this crappy directories hide their own links between 1000 others. Also, many of this guys are trying to promote their own directories placing links between thousands other.

That's not entirely true. The number/quality of backlinks is dependent on the competition for the keywords one is trying to rank for. If someone is trying to rank for a keyword with 20 million results, directories won't help much. However, being listed in directories does help if the keyword competition is 2 million or less. Regardless, backlinks typically don't hurt a site.

Most likely you will be moved in snadbox.

The sandbox is a myth, where about half the people believe it exists while the other half thinks it does not exist. I personally don't believe it exists. Link popularity will get a site ranked, regardless of its age. But if the only backlinks being developed are from the site owner, chances are the "sandbox" is just a fancy term for being too lazy to promote their site.

I know a few people that provide directory lists, including myself. None of the people I know have their directories planted in their lists. In my case, my free directory list is part of my pay for review directory. My social bookmarking list is also part of my web directory.

I'm sure that there are some people posting directory lists in forums that have their own directories in the list. But most of these directory lists are free directory lists, so the submitter gets what he or she pays for.

I just want to be on record saying that not all lists are created equal or with ulterior motives.

Lots of us are tired of seeing directory lists, but the mods don’t seem to mind them.

If you want to have a real directory list. I think you have to use the list on directorycritic, directoryrate and paiddirectorylist.com .

That is all. Others are not necessary.

Exactly! This networks give enough information and huge list of directories.

"Submission in 1500 directories will never help your site to rank better." The reason is simple. Is there any directory which has cached subcategories? If you have listing on a subcategory which is not cached by the Google it does mean a big nothing for you.

Major directories have many cached pages. Very few that have cached pages can be found posted on lists in forums. They are garbage and should be banned from all forums.

That's easy, I own several that have cached subtopics. Just check WoW Directory with over 2 million cached pages http://www.google.com/search?q=site:...com&hl=en&aq=t and WoW Yellow Pages with half a million cached pages http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q...om&btnG=Search

Yeah WoW Directory is really cached but I think for 43 USD it's the minimum

I operate a regional business directory and strongly believe that it meets the needs of its user base and provides value. Niche ones do make a difference while general directory seem to be in a slide.

Link farms are in a big slide as you call it, but Real General Directories are doing very well and have always accelerated in times of diversity.
