Does Anyone Know of A Powerful FTP Software?

I need an FTP software that can transfer about 30,000 files from the server to my hard drive in 2 days, at most. It also needs to have a scheduling/automatic transfer feature. FireFTP is not cutting it. I tried using FireFTP to transfer the files over one weekend, and when I came in on Monday, it wasn't done. Any suggestions?

Try filezilla. It's a good FTP software. but I don't know if it has scheduling/automatic transfer feature. Please check it's new version.

I believe that you need to do that with shell access. That will minimize your time.

It looks like you have a lot of files there.
You could create a huge tar file and upload it.
Then execute "tar xvf file.tar". After that move files wherever you want.
Note if you have files that maybe compressed you could use:
"tar zcvf file.tgz". and after that "tar xvf file.tgz"

That's the kind of solution I would suggest, for a large number of files archive them into one single container and upload that. That way you only have to move one file and using .tar or .tgz is probably the best bet.

Why move all your stuff one thing at a time when you could just move the whole house?

Absolutely!. and since it's Freeware Open Source Software, it's my FTP of choice no matter what. Especially since I've never had a need it couldn't do.

30k files can actually be moved with filezilla, if you have patience. DOnt try to move them in single step, probably in groups of 1k-2k. I have done it for a vbulletin site (attachments) where I didnt have shell access. But make sure that you move from server to server, downloading to your local pc can be very slow.

Tar.gz is the best solution, though.

Actually some control panels offer some sort of web filemanager you could try that.
Another option could be to use PHP and execute linux commands to move files.

e.g.
Code:
<?php set_time_limit(30 * 60); // 30 mins max running time echo `mv /home/user1/data/dir1 /home/user1/data/dir2 2>&1`; ?>
