Your Worst Hosting Experience
Hi,
Just wondering if anyone wants to recount their worst hosting experience?
Apart from the joy of listening to other people's horror stories it might give some insight to those of us how don't know the pros & cons of various hosting companies.

The worst experience ever
You want to know my worst hosting experience?
Ever heard of profithostplus.com? Well, that place is the worst ever.. omg here is my story shortened.. lol
I signed up for profithostplus in February on a Friday. They claim to activate your account within 24 hours. Boy, was that false advertisement. lol I waiting till Monday, and still was not activated. Well, I called them and believe it or not, they have no 800 toll free number, so imagine the bills I received from calling them. lol Anyway, that guy claimed that he never received my order and to email him to another email address my domain name, username, and password. lol Well, I did that, and then waiting another few more days and was still not activated. Well, I called him back again since that is the only way to contact him, because I found out he never replies to his emails, even to threatening emails.
He said there was a glitch in the system and they are working on it. Anyway, after repeat calls to him, and repeat emails(which he never replies to), I finally got activated 2 weeks after I signed up. lol
Well, anyway everything in the control panel doesn't even work(they programmed their own control panel). I had nothing but problems with that hosting company, it is unreal. lol
So, I suggest not to goto this company at all.. That is the worse experience I ever had, not to mention I had thousands of headaches, and tons of money short from my pocket.

Another bad experience
Can't say too much now, I still have a site hosted there but I have found Ausweb, Australia's worst web host No service, just incompetence. Three sites in total not working becuase of them. They have a fantastic SEO ie they have used other sites to link back to theirs.

linuxwebhost.com
well, since I want to use a bad word describing the guy that removed, on his own, with no authority from me, my complete site, I guess I'm not over it yet. May 2005, end of month, when I used to get MOST of my orders.
how about linuxwebhost.com?
the same ones that are right now, trying to charge our cc [defunct] for a website we canceled with them, in ...you guessed it, May 2005.
westhost.com is our current and we are within the 30 day range and looking for another. John Scott, email me pls.

Lol CompWizards!
Here is experience!
Long times ago, i registerd a domain name at godaddy.com costed me $10
i cound't login to my account and manager the domain name
I send hunred messages to them and asked for help! guess what?
They dont have very good customers supports, all the emails are Auto Replies, explains how things works.
I followed all step, but still coundnt get in m account
All i need was real supports, not auto replies with some stupid texts
Im not saying that they are a bad company, (they are a good company, very big) They have thoundsand of customers that is why Big companies not alway goods, they can't support goods if they have too many customers
If you search "google" there are hunred of people are having the same problem like i had, and still need for an answer
$10 is notthing but it was driving me crazy
Today, I Own everythings i needs, for hosting bussiness

AvaHost was horrible - always down, and always some lame excuse of a DDoS from Russia.
LunarPages and iPowerWeb - they were always timing-out when the forums got busy.
RackShack / EV1 - they blocked the very IP they issued to use, and were a bunch of jokers. Historical incompetence in their support dept.
But BinaryBlocks.com was the worst. They didn't pay their server bill and got shut off, and I lost a website due to it.

WebFusion - Bloody hell what a complete nightmare.
They used to be a very good company but they were taken over by Pipex and they started cramming everyone onto their servers and were constantly going down.
This happened for the last 6 months of me being there and I was tearing my hair out at how nobody was answering their phones and my customers just couldn't access my site.
If you did a search on webfusion + issues you'll soon realise how bad those crazy buggers are.

I signup with godaddy.com but find that it's very difficult for me to setup my website. I prefer dot.ws. Easy to manage web hosting.

Worst host has to be Mediacatch.com
Constantly down, way over priced...customer service was the worst out of all of that. Biggest mistake I've made

Mine was all tad bad. I signed up for hive.com.my. 99.9% uptime my foot. The only uptime i saw was 50%. There is one month that the whole hosting was down for 6-8 days. Then there are a fe days where when try to upload files thru ftp , my ftp client shows disconnection EVERY FEW SECONDS.
AVOID THIS HOSTING
hive.com.my
P/S: The site is down now LOLX

unithosting.net just up and vanished one day. I had like 8 sites with them and they were all down. No support or anything. A couple days later I really started to worry. Couldn't contact support. A week later I was trying to find backups (which I mostly didn't have). A month later I was rebuilding the sites on new hosts. I still haven't recovered all my sites from that disaster.

power-hosts.net <~~ The worst guys ever! I met them via some friends on Yahoo, and they spoke all the blabber about 99.99% uptime and things along the likes! Paid them 150 bucks for an annual plan! And the uptime ?? 15-20%
Had moved a trance forum to them, my forum which initially had 18k members had a drastic reduce of active members after the site slowed down!
Then they had excuses that HDDs are being replaced and this excuse was made not once but 4 times in on year!
My site was completely erased 3 times and had to start with month old backups!
Then one fine day, I get a message from them bastards to backup all the data as the HDD is being formatted!
I was like whaaaaaaaaaaa ? Backup 1800 MB of db ? Shux!
I told them they can go f*ck themselves! I don't want to host with em anymore!
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr........

Heh. It's not a horrible hosting experience, but Yahoo hosting has been pretty annoying. They support PHP and MySQL, but don't allow ANY filenames to have non-alphanumeric characters... Translation: 75% of the open source PHP packages out there won't install properly without extensive code editing and file renaming.

Once my database was deleted - they said a hardware failure - and replaced by one month old databse. Imagine the situation! That taught me a lesson though. I backup database frequently now!

I had problems with IPowerweb, their dbs kept going down and everytime I called they blamed my code for the problem.
Well, then I heard about SurfSpeedy. They came recommended, I should have done more research. They time out a lot, the db is slow and often goes down, and sometimes it takes them a long time to get things running again. Oh not to mention having to submit a support ticket each time I wanted to update my stats. They were down for about a week thanks to a hacker. You would think a hosting company would have looked into security issues. The vulerablity that the hacker got in through had info dating back almost a year. Things have gotten a little better now that they moved me to a new server, but still a week off line!

LOL. A DDoS from Russia. I laughed hard when I saw that one.
GeoCities is the worst so far! For people that download a file from there,
you're probably gonna get errors all of the time!
When I tried to download K-Ninja from there, I so far gotten an error all of the time!

1&1 is the worst host I ever had - When I had a billing problem with them it took over three weeks for them to sort it out! Their prices may be cheap but their support just doesn't exist.
