problems with dns settings and server

Hi,

I'm pretty new to web hosting etc. I've set up a site, i have a friends who has it on his server. I registered my domain with lycos webcentre (only £1.99 a yr!) on a domain only account. Now when i try to fill in the dns settings it asks me for the server name and the server ip address. I know the IP, but neither me or the owner of the server knows what to put in the server name box.

If it's any help his server uses apache, windows xp pro. Any ideas what we're supposed to enter??

thanks

its a first time server, so we don't know what its asking for when it asks for the server name. We've tried the computers set name (as in system in control panel) doesnt work.

Does your friend have a fixed IP address with his ISP? If not then your really going to be complicating the process since you will have to sign up and configure a dynamic DNS service.

To host on a home computer you need a DNS service to have your dns entries. To do this I would suggest you sign up for a free account at www.zoneedit.com This is where you match the server IP address to the domain you want it to serve pages for.

You then put the zoneedit DNS server entries into your domain registry.
