Really Stupid Website Saving Question

Hey Guys,

Wrong area and stupid question, but a website I know of is being taken off the web shortly, but I would like to keep a copy of it on my PC for future reference.

Does anyone know how I can save the individual pages. Also the links won't work of course so is there a way to get them linking to my saved pages...or in fact is it just easier to take some screen grabs???

Many thanks in advance

Paul

There is an extension available for FireFox. It allows you to make an exact copy of the web site, with the link depth you specify. The site will be saved on your HDD and will include all the pages, along with graphics, sounds etc.

SnagIt is the best utility out there for capturing screenshots. It also has autoscroll to capture pages/images that require scrolling.

If you are using IE you can do a FILE > SaveAS to save a copy of the page with the images. But a pain to do this one page at a time.

You may want to email the webmaster or owner of the site to see if they are willing to give you an archive copy or to see if there is a mirror site out there. Since their site is going away, they may be willing to do this.

I would still suggest spiderzilla which, unlike snagit, is free and has so much more functionality. Check it out:

Just for clarification, these are two different products that do entirely different things. This app is to download files and sites. SnagIT is ONLY for screen capture similar to the "PrintScrn" button on your keyboard but with advanced features.

yes, I used snagit a few years ago (used to be free), but later opted for PSP's capture functionality.

I suggest the use of spiderzilla for the particular need of the original poster. Snagit can't beat spiderzilla in this respect. Especially that graphics is just one small aspect of the site. Spiedrzilla will get you the original pictures, scripts, htmls code etc. Basically the whole site (minus the database, for obvious resons).

Try it, I'm pretty sure you'll like it a lot.

If you have FrontPage or know someone that does they can import the site as is.
