What made you choose your present host company?
Hi guys,
Just wondering, how did you come across your web host? On what criteria was your selection based?

My choice was based on:
- what was their disaster recovery plan
- downtime/uptime percentage
- features compared to pricing (rather pay more for feature I need vs paying for features that are useless)
The main reason for disaster recovery is that I had a client that was hosting at a small town hosting company. Very friendly, pretty reliable and pricing was great. During one bad storm the whole town lost power for a week. All clients were down for an entire week. Not much they could do about this terrible situation.

24/7 Phone Support
27/7 phone support was a huge requirement for me.

I chose
Hello all,
I chose my current host "Third Sphere" because:
They give me:
Unlimited domains
Good bandwidth
A great help desk
Some extra tools too that auto install, important
because I'm not really a techie :-)

data backup, support (email and instant messengers), uptime, connectivity, stability (eg. NOT applying the latest php version just to see that it is buggy in order to fall back to the old version the next week)

I think I chose HostReflex, wich I use for guitarresources.net. Because it was cheap ($7.95/month with 15Gigs bandwith and 350 megs HD ) , because they had a very nice looking website and because i read a review on some kind of hosting review site.
I was very happy during the first year of service but it seems like the quality of the service dropped in the second year. They have installed new servers just a few months ago and it seems like most problems are over now...
So in fact I am a satisfied customer...
I am certainly going to sign up again next year

One word really....TRUST.
if you don't trust the people behind your host, then it's pointless...even with server problems, downtime, uptime etc etc....it means nothing to me if I don't trust the people behind the company.

I choose a lot of bad hosts before starting V7. I usually based those decisions on recommendations - little did I know that most of the recommendations were affiliates.

yeah, that is indeed a major problem.
People are looking for an objective oppinion about webhosts but that is virtually impossible.
