how to check if host is not lying..
Let's say a host says we offer this much bandwidth, that much speed, memory, ram.. whatever.. How can I check if this info is true, and price is reasonable.
Is there a well accepted standard on pricing?

no really, you just gotta do price comparisons compared with reviews on the hosts. Paying for a host all depends on what you can afford and what your willing to spend for a good host.
