For server wide, change it in /etc/php.ini and restart apache

You can do it per vhost in the various vhost.conf files (safer on a shared server)

This explanation tells you how to disable open_basedir in plesk without breaking/commenting your current httpd.conf basedir lines.

Create a new file, called vhost.conf
This file will include anything you want to disable from httpd.conf main config from your virtual host.

Quote:
# touch /var/www/vhosts/yourdomain.com/conf/vhost.conf
Now we edit the file and we add the following,

Quote:
# vi /var/www/vhosts/yourdomain.com/conf/vhost.conf
Code:
<Directory /var/www/vhosts/yourdomain.com/httpdocs> php_admin_value open_basedir none </Directory>
Once you finish adding the mentioned lines, its time to reconfigure and restart the webserver config.

Quote:
# /usr/local/psa/admin/sbin/websrvmng -v -a
open_basedir for yourdomain.com should be disabled by now.

Are you seeing any type of error message or anything of the sort or is it just not working?

What exactly are you trying to do? We would need the exact error code? does it say that the open base dir restriction is still in place? Create a phpino file upload it, view it, and check if it still shows any base dir restrictions... Might want to try disabling safe mode too?
Also, I recall having similar trouble installing a php application, and plesk had another php.ini for CLI. might want to search for all php.ini related files and check it's disabled everywhere.

Hi,

I am facing the same problem. I have checked all php.ini files available and everywhere the option open_basedir is commented out. I also have a vhost.conf file in the domain_home/conf directory and have followed all the steps mentioned in the 3rd post by SyfonicHosting, but still I have the following errors in the error_log and the site does not work.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[Wed Sep 02 22:48:00 2009] [error] [client 66.249.65.251] PHP Warning: Unknown: open_basedir restriction in effect. File(/var/www/vhosts/travelconnect.in/httpdocs/index.php) is not within the allowed path(s): (L\x99\xe7\tL\x99\xe7\t\xc4x\xb8\t) in Unknown on line 0
[Wed Sep 02 22:48:00 2009] [error] [client 66.249.65.251] PHP Warning: Unknown: failed to open stream: Operation not permitted in Unknown on line 0
[Wed Sep 02 22:48:00 2009] [error] [client 66.249.65.251] PHP Fatal error: Unknown: Failed opening required '/var/www/vhosts/travelconnect.in/httpdocs/index.php' (include_path='.:') in Unknown on line 0
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

please help.
