you will find limits there.

Notably, there usually aren't space/bandwidth limits (most hosts do actually keep to their promise), rather... If you hit a certain CPU limit, you'll be gone.

Huh?
If a host says they're offering unlimited disk space/bandwidth... They're legally obligated to do so. They are however welcome to apply other restrictions.

Its a marketing technique to attract people, nothing is unlimited. They add other issues to it like cpu usage and so.

I would say NEITHER. But If there is an alternative between unlimited and ridiculous, I would rather believe in unlimited offer.
There are quite reliable companies, opffering unlimited space and bandwidth and explain clearly how does it work within the terms of service.
Here is the quote from webhostgiant's tos:

Both are just marketing gimmics. Unlimited offers, and extreme overselling, just lie/mislead people to get extra customers.

Here is the opinion of Brent Oxley (owner of HostGator) on this matter:
Quote:
|
"The majority of hosting companies began offering unlimited disk space and bandwidth plans months ago, if not years ago. They might not say “unlimited” but with the size of current plans being offered there’s no difference. The top hosting companies could 100x their current offerings and it wouldn’t be any different than what they offer now."

I sort of agree, but I still feel it's mis-leading customers since - as we know - it's impossible to offer unlimited disk-space and bandwidth.
So yeah, in *practise* it works out okay, but I'm just a tad dubious about promoting "unlimited" offerings since it's mis-leading.
I've seen quite a few people get surprised when their $x per month host has suspended their site after "only" using (say) mid-high xx GB bandwidth.
Some people truly believe that "unlimited" offerings exist, and I think this is a bit mis-leading.

Although I do think that advertising unlimited everything is scammish, I can say that there are several companies I have used for hosting in the past and never had an issues with them saying I was using too many resources.

I agree fully. I've heard nearly all good things from HostGator, who are obviously one of the biggest unlimited hosts.
I'm not a fan of the business model, but it certainly can be very successful

Yea but you have to remember that HostGator was one of the most popular even before they started offering everything unlimited.

I'm using hostgator's "unlimited" host for a couple of months, and I can say it's working ok. No lag when transferring files, no lag on site-loading.

Indeed, and a lot of the hosts that now are seen as bad for offering unlimited, were getting negative reviews before they went unlimited. It's not the unlimited that makes or breaks a hosting company, it's the management of the business and servers that do it.

And the support department. I had a hosting package from a local company from Romania, and one of their servers crashed, and it took them 3 months to recover my data and put everything back. And in this whole time they didn't tell any news to the users, so I just had to wait for a miracle. No I'm using HostGator and their support line is very good.

If to choose between unlimited and ridiculous I would rathe get unlimited, even knowing that everything has its end.
About webhostgiant.com and their unlimited offers - the company made such offer because they know - no site based on the shared account will exceed even 100GB (not telling about offered 1000) and thus it is a trick. Even if I know this is a reliable company.
Hoever such tricks are better than shred accounts which nominally include more resources than even a dedicated servers of the same company - ridiculous!
So, between these evils I would choose the lesser which is unlimited o_O!

Why would no site exceed 100 GB?
