*WARNING* DO NOT host with Yahoo
I moved 15 of my sites to Yahoo hosting for an SEO experiment I was trying.
One of the sites has been completely shut down (403 forbidden) for almost a full week and all I get from support is:
"We have no idea why your site is down and we have asked an engineer to look into it but there is no ETA for getting it back up and you can't speak to anyone else"
This has been going on for almost a week and still no resolution or answer as to why my site and FTP is down. The worst part is that there is data I can't get until I get into the FTP account.
I have over 1000 websites on various hosts and my own dedicated servers and I have NEVER dealt with issues like this.
I just wanted to put out this warning to everyone thinking about trying them out.

Thanks for the info. I've heard good and bad about Yahoo in the past.

Interesting information.
I was thinking of setting up a "yahoo store"... now I`m going to reconsider.

They have some great tools for webmasters which is why it sucks that their service is so bad when things go wrong. I was a convert until this happened.
I bought my domains through them and everything. Now I will stick to my dedicated servers. The companies I work with there don't mess around when problems pop up. One of them has a 20 minute average response time to issues even at 4 am.

I haven't had any issues like this with Yahoo. I've been hosting tca-inc.net with the merchant package for about a year now with no issue. I also have jakeyourlilly.com hosted there.
However, I'm slowlying moving sites away from Yahoo anyways. Not because of what they do, because of what they don't do. I'm getting better 'added value' from my other host.

I used to host with yahoo. I never had a single problem with them, no downtime either. Then I hosted with v7inc, and now with someone else.

I liked yahoo but they won't let you use .htaccess files which pissed me off cause I didn't get told that until I had already tried to set up my whole website on their servers..
I have been satisfied with my yahoo store so far though.

I just recently got hosting with Yahoo for one site, just to check it out. I wouldn't put an important site there until I have more experience with them.

yeah, turns out I'm somewhat re-falling in love with them again. I really like the "one-button" activation for phpbb and wordpress.

Well, I learned the hard way. Got a hosting account with Yahoo a week or so ago, uploaded files, had the database imported, and everything should have been working. But it wasn't.
That's when I found out Yahoo does not allow .htaccess files. Damn rediculous, and wasted hours upon hours of my time uploading the site, the db and figuring out their silly control panel.

We're sorry. The domain you entered does not have a valid TLD. Please search for a different domain name with one of the following extensions: .com, .net, .org, .us, .biz, or .info.

I was thinking of hosting a .jp domain with Yahoo for the email service only, but they don't recognize .jp domains as valid.

seems like you're talking to a bunch of robots that don't know what they're doing.

Don't most webhosts offer this functionality? I'm on 3 different webhosts (dreamhost, ivhosting, and lightningservers), and all of them have 1-click installs... I like Dreamhost's the most because of their attention to the latest software releases.

Not the ones I've worked with, but I haven't worked with any of the ones you mention.

Sorry to hear about your experience, hope you've found a host that's doing the job right.
