AFAIK Magento is a very heavy script, so most budget hosting providers won't be a safe route. In other words, expect to pay top dollar.

One host I know of to be sort of specializing in hosting this application is crucialwebhost.com, but I've never used them myself. I suppose you can find more suggestions over at Magento's forums?

Have you been considered the magento wiki list of hosting companies...You will find a lot of options there which are also recommended by Magento...

Well, there are hosts which have specialized eCommerce plans. I cannot give you names, but asking the google for 'ecommerce hosting' might help.

Their advantage is being optimized for hosting and operating certain scripts.

It looks to be a complex script. I'd highly recommend a Linux VPS to run it rather smoothly. A budgeted shared plan with this script is a recipe for disaster.

You have to find a narrow specialized company in magento.
And what is your budget?

From the personal experience I suggest you Simplehelix.com, they are not cheap, but perfectly optimized for such a heavy soft as Magento.

To OP

Do you have any idea how large you except site to be? Web hosts do have a lot of flexibility with their e-commerce plans as a starting point.

Which host is good in your opinion? Have you use magento before?

Magneto is very server heavy especially as you build the product lines.

I run an ecommerce site and its hosted by http://www.ewdhosting.com/e-commerce-solutions.html

Now it aint cheap, its about $18 per month for shared hosting but i can assure you that they are the best hosting company i have ever seen or heard of and even though i could get it hosted cheaper elsewhere, i wouldnt even dream of changing.

I figure my ecommerce shop (real business) is worth close to $200k, why would i jepordise that to save $10 per month???

Just my thoughts and honest opinion but EWD are a fantastic host

I think you should consider the web hosting companies suggested by Magento themselves. Then bring them here for some review.
