name2host.com complaints

name2host combines domain registration and hosting services for a pretty low price ($30 or $40 / year) but it's almost impossible to get support. they literally ignore email questions and have no phone support at all! you can't get in touch with these people... totally shady!

while my site was hosted by name2host, there were several major service disruptions, email problems etc. I once tried to register a domain with them, was told the transaction failed... I tried again and got the same message. a month later, on my credit card statement there were 2 charges for a domain name I don't own! I can't count how many times I've tried to get in touch with them and get my money back and heard NOTHING in response!

Transfering my domain from name2host.com was also a nightmare:
The whois info was set to private, thus untransferable with seemingly no way of changing it!
it took many unanswered (or answered with brief unclear responses) emails to find a members control panel at: manage.name2host.com
nowhere on the name2host site is there any reference to this page.

I hope that posting this helps people avoid the name2host service, and is helpfull to anybody searching for a way to control (transfer) their name2host hosted domain.

I find plenty of unbiased complaints, but what are the chances of getting an unbiased recommendation of a paid host? I really need one..

I think on a whole people have more "ex-hosts" then "current hosts". Meaning they have more companies they can give complaints about then ones they can recommend.

However, if you give it a little more time, I'm sure it will all even out.

it's only been a few months, but so far I'm happy with goaddy.com
it's a big company so a bit more reliable than others i've used

quick email responses and 24 hr phone support... very refreshing

Honest recommendations? Here you go the short version of all my reviews. I have at least one account with each of the following comapnies:

V7 and Bluehost are my favorites. Real Web Host is good too. Host Gator is OK. Powweb is not so good. Split Infinity is not so good. Globat is awful.

Powweb? Good uptime for the website, but webmail blows. Support is mediocre at best. Actually they are pretty bad. Just follow Juggopop's link, then you can read my Powweb review.
