Hosting IP addresses

I have 4 websites. One is an established ecommerce site and I intend to put up other sites selling individual products from the main site. I have heard that Google doesn't like this and I should make sure they are hosted on different IP addresses. Is this true?

With the rate that IPv4 addresses are getting exhausted it would be irresponsible of Google to factor this in to their algorithm. I've never seen any evidence of SEO benefits.

Not sure how much it will affect rankings if they share the same IP, but ensure you don't duplicate the content on the individual-product pages. You will get ding'd if you do!

Is this true?
No, it isn't. You can find Matt Cutts confirming this as well. Basically, if all you have is 4 sites, you're in safe territory.

If you have thousands of sites and you're interlinking them, you'll very likely going to get into trouble.

If you're not interlinking you're sites at all, then you're certainly safe. The vast majority of websites use shared hosting, where hundreds or thousands of domains/sites share a single IP - this is perfectly normal, and Google is well aware of it.

In fact google doesn't bother about IP addresses at all, but dedicated IP is needed for you to use SSL for your ecommerce site

Google has absolutely no problem in such arrangement. Webmasters prefer different class C IP to interlink the sites and pass PR, while hiding from Google that they all are sites owned by same person. That is somewhat old thinking and as correctly pointed out above, SEO hosting is no more practical or logical now that IP addresses are in limited supply.

A shared IP address does not affect the SEO of your site. It's completely unreasonable for every site to have its own IP address with IPv4 depletion.

I personally do not think that google factors this in anymore just because IPv4 Addresses are being depleted quickly and the situation is not going to get any better.
